Formally used to hang up kidskins for drying, this hall has been converted into a home complete with designer furniture. Renovation has combined innovation with things from the past. It is a preservative restoration that maintains the original wooden structure and spectacular trusses, which in addition to playing a structural role also preserves the feel of a mountain home. Renovation began with a preservative restoration which was followed by the conversion of the pre-existing structure to suit the needs of the client. The rafters are all original, probably dating to the 1400s. They have been kept in place and reinforced using iron supports. This space, originally used as an attic, is very high on the interior, which makes two levels possible. The upper level has been made into a studio and the lower level into a living/dining room. Linking the two is a cantilever staircase complete with iron banister painted grey. The steps, held up with iron brackets, are fixed to the wall to create an aerial and transparent effect that does not interfere too much with the rest; only the upper part of the staircase is made in the traditional manner with steps in between walls and covered with the same wood used for the treads leading up to it. The elimination of indoor partitions has been carried out so as to create a general sense of lightness and to show off the rooms. The entire space is characterised by old trusses which, together with minimalist furniture and the iron elements of the staircase, create an interesting contrast of styles.
