A rredano questa casa molti oggetti progettati da lei. Si trova sempre bene con loro?
A me piace molto vivere con gli oggetti che progetto, averli intorno costituisce per me una verifica sul campo della loro correttezza come operazioni di design e un’esperienza diretta del loro grado di libertà. E’ un continuo stimolo ad andare avanti, in quanto sono arredo ma sono anche idee, come è nella vocazione storica di chi applica la creatività alla funzione. Per esempio la scaffalatura rossa che ho in entrata, a cui ho dato il nome di Telemaco (il figlio di Ulisse con cui forse la designer si identifica n.d.r.), che solitamente viene risolta con rigidità strutturale, io l’ho progettata a elementi liberamente dislocabili nello spazio, in modo da poter essere continuamente rein-ventata e divenire la protagonista del suo ambiente: è un’idea di libertà. Qui lo spazio sono io e gli oggetti che lo animano devono essere concretizzazioni della mia personalità.

This house is furnished with several items you designed yourself.Are you still satisfied with them? I like living with the objects I design, having them around is an on-field verification of their cor-rectness as design operations, and a direct expe-rience of their degree of freedom. It’s a constant spur to move on, as they are furnishings as well as ideas, according to the historical vocation of those who apply creativity to function. For instance, the red bookshelf in the hall, which I called Telemachus (Ulysses’ son, with whom the designer probably identifies herself, Editor’s note), is normally based on a rigid structure, but I designed it with elements that can be freely moved in the space, so that it can be always re-invented and become the focal element of its environment: it’s an idea of freedom. Here, the space is me and the objects that animate it must be tangible expressions of my personality.
