Balconi e balaustre sono da sempre due elementi architettonici distintivi che caratterizzano le facciate delle abitazioni di montagna. Nelle antiche case contadine la balconata, realizzata sempre in legno, assumeva grande importanza sia perchè caratterizzava esteticamente ogni casa sia perchè testimoniava l’appartenenza ad un gruppo o ad una popolazione, testimoniando fedeltà alle proprie radici etniche. Il traforo della balaustra, inoltre, era necessario per assicurare una buona areazione al fieno e agli altri cereali, messi ad essiccare sui balconi. Nelle costruzioni moderne, dove non sussistono più queste necessità, la balconata mantiene il suo carattere di elemento decorativo, legato alla tradizione del luogo, variando dalle linee più semplici alle forme più composite, ricche di intagli e sagomature.
ONCE THERE WAS A BALCONY…
