I bagni qui fotografati fanno parte di un progetto più ampio dell’architetto Luca Scacchetti che, sulla Costa Azzurra, ha progettato la villa comprensiva anche di due piscine, una interna e una esterna.Anche se ubicata in territorio francese, la committenza è italiana come l’interprete degli spazi, Luca Scacchetti, un architetto fortemente segnato dalle matrici storiche della progettazione, in primis quelle italiane.
Quali sono i riferimenti?
Filarete, Leon Battista Alberti, Bramante: da loro discende il rapporto analogico tra interno ed esterno che, ad esempio, ha guidato la progettazione delle due piscine. “Il corridoio è una strada, l’ingresso una piazza, la sala una basilica: le forme della casa sono una piccola città”. Sono questi i miei punti di partenza che non m’impediscono di dialogare o di contaminarmi con altre culture come è stato, ad esempio, con l’ultimo complesso residenziale che ho progettato a Tokyo.
Tra gli ambienti sottoposti a più profonde modificazioni c’è proprio la stanza del bagno. In quale tendenza si colloca?
Non credo ad una tendenza quanto ad una corretta soluzione caso per caso. In particolare, in questa villa, data la presenza di aree fitness e relax in prossimità delle piscine, i bagni hanno avuto uno sviluppo piuttosto convenzionale.
Concordo con la convenzionalità ma l’impiego dei marmi connota fortemente questi ambienti: in che rapporto stanno con gli altri settori della casa?
Il rapporto tra i vari ambienti è esprimibile da una sorta di sommatoria di libera addizione di forme planimetriche e figurative differenti. Ogni locale è pensato in se ed assommato secondo uno schema funzionale prestabilito ma senza rapporto formale o stilistico con il locale contiguo. Per analogia si può pensare, giusto per intendersi, ai locali della Domus Romana o pompeiana.
I marmi impiegati sono delle vere e proprie campiture di colore: quali materiali ha impiegato?
Ho scelto per i pavimenti l’onice, e poi marmi giallo Siena e nero marquinia. Vedo che in tutti gli ambienti ricorre un motivo costante. Sì, il decoro ricorrente è sicuramente quello geometrico ed elementare rappresentato da quadrati e loro sottogeometrie o geometrie derivate come si vede negli arredi che io stesso ho disegnato.

The bathrooms shown here are part of a wider programme, and were devised by the architect Luca Scacchetti who designed this South of France villa with its two swimming pools (indoor and outdoor). Although the villa is located in France, the owner – like architect Luca Scacchetti – is Italian.
Scacchetti is, in fact, an architect who has been strongly influenced by primarily Italian historic design matrices. What were your references?
Filarete, Leon Battista Alberti and Bramante: the symbolic relationship between the inside and the outside which, for example, was used as a guideline for the design of the two swimming pools, is based on their school of thought. “The corridor is a road, the entrance a piazza, the sitting room a basilica; the shapes of the house are those of a small city”. These are the starting points that prevent me from conversing with or being contaminated by other cultures as was the case, for example, when I designed my latest residential complex in Tokyo.
One of the rooms that has been subjected to the greatest changes is the bathroom.Which trend does it fit into?
I do not believe so much in a trend as in finding the right solution for each case study. In particular, in this villa, given the presence of a fitness and relaxation area near the swimming pools, the bathrooms had to be fairly conventional.
I agree with conventionalism, but the use of marble connotes these areas strongly. What is their relationship with the rest of the house?
The relationship between the various areas may be expressed in a sort of summary of the free addition of different planimetric and figurative shapes. Each room has been conceived per se and put together according to a predetermined functional diagram without there necessarily being any formal or stylistic relationship with the adjacent room. Just to give you an idea, as an analogy, try to imagine the rooms of the Domus Romana or Pompei.
The marbles used are true colour background paintings: what materials were employed?
For the floors I chose onyx, yellow Siena marble and black Marquinia. I have noticed that a continuous theme runs through the rooms. Yes, the overall decoration is definitely geometric and elementary, and is represented by squares and their subgeometries or derived geometries – as may be seen in the furnishings that I myself designed.
