Restoration of this old barn in the hills around Volterra has maintained the outside appearance by preserving the chessboard air inlets so typical of Tuscan barns. Now used as a home, it has a total area of 90 m2 on two levels; there is a kitchen, living room, and suspended platform. A spiral staircase made entirely of iron by the company TN of Nello Trinciarelli, connects the living room to the suspended platform, which has a bathroom and bedroom. The steps are made with openwork sheet metal (using a laser) based on a design that draws inspiration from the wall openings. It has a plain and linear appearance, the only decoration being the steps with rectangular holes arranged in fan-shaped chessboard manner. A single-beam column supports the bent sheet-metal steps and the simple banister made using an iron bar.
