Un cottage in Jamaica

Nella solare jamaica, terra della musica raggae e della natura rigogliosa, un cottage è diventato un paradiso privato. E’ in perfetto stile caraibico, circondato da un giardino esotico e da un belvedere con vista su montego bay.

In sunny jamaica, land of reggae music and thriving nature, a cottage has become a private paradise. It is in true caribbean style, and is surrounded by an exotic garden and a belvedere with a view over Montego bay.

As in all Jamaican homes, the roof is made of shingles of cedar wood,
a species that is resistant to local torrential rains and that also keeps insects at bay. "

“The sun is shining, the weather is sweet, make you want to move your dancin’ feet”. Il sole sta splendendo, il tempo è dolce, muovi i tuoi piedi ballerini, cantava Bob Marley in quel suo inimitabile reggae che lasciava immaginare una Jamaica assolata e rigogliosa. Il profeta rasta aveva negli occhi le piantagioni di zucchero e ananas, ora, al loro posto, si trova un cottage con piscina e una sontuosa vista sull’oceano. Ma il clima è lo stesso, la bellezza dell’isola è rimasta immutata.

‘The sun is shining, the weather is sweet, make you want to move your dancin’ feet.’ The words of Bob Marley in his inimitable reggae, which conjured up an image of a thriving Jamaica, bathed in sunshine. In the eyes of the Rasta prophet were the sugar and pineapple plantations; now standing in their place is a cottage with a swimming pool and a sumptuous view over the ocean. But the climate remains unchanged, and the beauty of the island is just as it used to be.

Tra orchidee e piante esotiche trova posto una piscina: ha la forma rotonda di un laghetto naturale ed è incorniciata da una siepe per armonizzarsi al meglio nel contesto naturale.

A swimming pool finds its place among orchids and exotic trees. It has the circular shape of a natural lake and is surrounded by a hedge to make it blend in as much as possible with the natural surroundings.

Un terrazzamento coperto si affaccia verso la costa e verso la piscina, regalando vista e ombra a un piccolo salotto. E’ una struttura interamente in legno, con il tetto in scandole di cedro, un angolo dedicato al relax dove riposarsi su morbidi cuscini o trovare refrigerio, grazie anche alla presenza di un ventilatore a pale, nelle calde giornate caraibiche. E dove, la sera, si può ammirare il tramonto sulla baia.

Covered terracing overlooks the coast and the swimming pool, providing shade and a view for a small living room. The all-wood structure with roof in cedar wood shingles provides a space in which to relax on comfortable cushions between swims, or else enjoy the coolness of a propeller fan during the hot Caribbean days. Also, in the evening, you can admire the sunset over the bay.

Un belvedere si spalanca su Montego Bay e sull’oceano. Per regalare un po’
di frescura alle calde giornate di sole, sotto la copertura è posizionato un ventilatore a pale.

coolness to the hot sunny days is a propeller fan placed under the covering.

La facciata, il portico, gli interni e gran parte degli arredi sono candidi, di un bianco delicato e fresco come vuole la tradizione delle abitazioni jamaicane. Qualche macchia di colore è data dai mazzi di fiori raccolti in giardino, dalle trapunte disegnate a verdi foglie e dagli oggetti dell’artigianato locale, come i buffi pappagallini in legno che sembrano sorridere nella sala da pranzo.

The facade, portico, interiors, and much of the furniture use the traditional fresh and delicate white of Jamaican homes. Bunches of flowers taken from the garden, quilts with green leaf designs, and objects by local artisans such as the amusing wooden parrots in the dining room that look as though they are smiling, provide the odd touch of colour.

Per dosare la luminosità e proteggere le camere da letto dalla afosità delle estati caraibiche, sono stati applicati all’interno delle finestre scuri in legno a veneziana. The house is a bungalow with wooden ceilings and large windows that open out onto the garden. To control the lightand protect the bedroom from the sultriness of caribbean summers, the interiors have been fitted out with dark wooden venetian blinds."
