Ci troviamo a Porto Ercole, sulla costa Toscana, lungo le pendici di una collina che finisce nel mare, sgretolandosi in una miriade di enormi scogli levigati. Nelle immediate vicinanze c’è un bosco, anch’esso esteso fino al mare, ricco di ulivi, lecci e ginepri; si tratta di un luogo di rara bellezza, dove è davvero possibile respirare tutti i profumi della macchia mediterranea. Qui, in origine, non c’era letteralmente nulla, ad esclusione di alcune e rade capanne appartenenti a carbonai, i quali se ne servivano come alloggio quando si recavano nel bosco per far provvista di legna al fine di ricavarne carbonella. Quando la proprietaria della casa vide per la prima volta questo nascosto angolo di natura incontaminata se ne innamorò immediatamente e decise che lì avrebbe dovuto nascere il suo personale “rifugio”. Trattandosi di area protetta , la casa fu progettata ed edificata nel pieno ed assoluto rispetto delle caratteristiche del territorio.
This is Porto Ercole, on the coast of Tuscany, at the foot of a hill that slopes into the sea, breaking up into a multitude of huge polished rocks. At a short distance, there is a wood, which also extends until the sea, rich in olive trees, holm oaks and juniper. I t ’s a place of rare beauty, where you can breathe all the smells of Mediterranean vegetation. Here, at the beginning, there was literally nothing, except for few huts belonging to peasants who used them as shelters when they stayed in the woods to collect wood to make charcoal. When the house owner first saw this hidden corner of uncontaminated nature, she immediately fell in love with it and decided she would build there her own “shelter”. Being a protected area, the house was designed and built in full compliance and harmony with the natural characteristics of this territory.

Per l’arredamento sono stati utilizzati antichi mobili di famiglia, oltre ai molti oggetti comperati durante i numerosi viaggi compiuti dalla proprietaria: lettini indiani, sculture di uccelli tailandesi, tappeti e tessuti egiziani, cuscini colombiani. Preziosi tessuti colorati contrastano con il candido bianco delle pareti e le possenti travi del soffitto che si armonizzano facilmente con il pavimento in cotto. Grandi portefinestre creano spettacolari scenografie con lo sfondo degli ulivi.
Il camino, nel soggiorno a doppia altezza che lascia libera la visuale su tutto l’ambiente, aggiunge un effetto decorativo in più, supportato dai divani in “muratura” con cuscini verde mela. Il tema del legno utilizzato anche per le mensole, si ritrova nelle camere da letto, abbinato a letti sia antichi che in midollino.
The house has been furnished with ancient family furniture, as well as several objects purchased during the many travels made by the mistress: Indian beds, sculptures of Thai birds, Egyptian carpets and fabrics, Colombian cushions. Precious colorful fabrics clash with the candid white walls and the massive ceiling beams that seamlessly harmonize with the fired brick flooring. Large French windows frame extraordinary scenes against the background of olive trees. The fireplace, in the double-height living room that opens the view on the whole environment, gives an additional decorative touch, supported by the brickwork sofas with apple green cushions. The wood, also used for shelves, can be found again in the bedrooms, together with ancient beds and pith beds.
