FRILLS: Join strips, gather
them, and then stitch the frill
to the fabric, right sides and
raw edges together. Position
the lining on top of the fabric
with the frill sandwiched in
the middle.

BINDING BORDERS: Iron in
1,5 cm (5/8 in) along each
edge of the border. Stitch the
border and fabric, right sides
together, and then fold the
border over the fabric to finish
the raw edge.

BORDI DELLE BALZE: stirare
per circa un centimetro e
mezzo entrambi i margini del
nastro. Cucire il nastro e il
tessuto accoppiandoli di fronte, ripiegandone poi la parte rimanente sull’orlo del tessuto per completare la parte non rifinita. |

piegare un nastro a metà e

Fold the border strip in half
and press to provide a perfectly straight fold line. The border is sandwiched between
the lining and the face fabric,
right sides and raw edges
together.

BORDI RICUCITI: per realizzare bordi piegando
due o più volte gli orli è necessario piegare gli angoli del tessuto. Gli orli così piegati
vanno puntati con spilli al tessuto, entrambi sulla parte frontale. Tagliare il quadrato di tessuto eccedente e cucire il bordo.

BINDING BORDERS: Mitred corners are used for borders that fold over fabric edges on two or more sides. Press hems into the border and stitch the border to the fabric, right sides together. Fold diagonally at the corner and then over the fabric edge and pin. Cut away the square of excess fabric and top-stitch the border onto the front of the fabric. |

BORDI INTERNI: quando è necessario che un bordo pieghi ad angolo retto, l’angolo deve essere raccordato. Stirare i nastri del bordo in prossimità dell’orlo. Appuntare i nastri di modo che si incrocino. Cucirli entrambi lungo i rispettivi lati, fino a dove si incontrano. Ripiegare in basso la parte terminale del nastro inferiore e appuntare. RECESSED BORDERS: When a border is required to turn a right angle the corner must be mitred. Press hems into the border strips. Pin the borders in place so they cross each other. Top-stitch them down along both sides to the point where they meet each other. Fold the lower border under and pin. Fold the upper strip diagonally across the corner. Tuck excess fabric away and trim. Continue the stitching (by machine) across the corner, top and bottom. |

As a rule, side hems are stitched in first, and the bottom hem is folded up over the side hems. Curtain hem allowance should be approximately 20 cm (8 in), folded in half lo make a hem ufabout 10 cm (4 in). In a loose lined curtain the lining hangs free of the curtain. A locked-in lining is slip-stitched to the side hems. |
