An old farmhouse renovated in a style that does not deny the strong genius loci of the sunny and rocky Progetto: arch.Francesco Stasi Near Nardò, just a few miles from the blue sea of Salento, yet surrounded by a red landscape punctuated by dry stone walls, is the renewed fifteenthcentury farm Agnano, now called the Masseria Bernardini, which just twenty years ago was occupied by an old farmer. It is the result of a painstaking renovation project carried out by the two owners, Beatrice Caputo and architect Francesco Stasi. They spend their time between Milan, working at the Cartiere Vannucci, an important venue for meetings, art and events, and their life around Salento, where they enjoy the slow pace, naturalness and bright colours of their farm. This they open to guests with the ‘Homemore’ winning formula that lets them have maximum freedom to use all the space. But for those arriving here for the first time, the feeling of warmth and comfort is guaranteed from the moment they set eyes on the place. Vista della piscina circondata dai fichi d’india. I coloratissimi letti a baldacchino Shown here, a view of two interiors: rustic in essence yet contemporary in detail. Also shown here, view of the pool surrounded by prickly pears. The colourful four-poster beds. The large outdoor spaces are surrounded by the typical walls in tufa, as though they delimited a paradise in the midst of the barren countryside. The architecture of this old building has a strong personality owing to its golden colour provided by the soft stone of Lecce and by the dazzling plaster; its inviting shapes have called for a careful renovation
The flagstone sun terrace with the typical golden-coloured paving of Lecce and the dazzling white-plastered walls, together with its chimney tops and sculptural architecture, houses the solarium that has cushions to relax on and observe the surrounding countryside without, as per the owners’ request, any electricity cables obstructing the view. In this way the stereometric and precise shapes of the stone vaults have been flanked by strong colours such as acid green, designer articles, modern collectibles and works of art; furniture and colours are minimalist in order to give prominence to the art works. |
