Una casa padronale del’300 fatta rivivere da un’artista

C ostruita alla fine del ‘300 come casa di campagna padronale, rivela nella sua vigorosa struttura a blocchi contrapposti lo spirito dell’architettura del tempo. Nel secolo successivo divenne la dimora di un grande pittore senese, lorenzo di pietro detto il vecchietta, l’autore degli splendidi affreschi che decorano il battistero della cattedrale. Oggi, dopo una parentesi utilitaria quando venne abitata da contadini, è tornata ad essere una dimora signorile.

This beautiful country manor, built at the end of the 14th century, reveals the spirit of the architecture of the period with its sturdy structure of opposing blocks. In the following century it was the home of a master painter from siena , lorenzo di pietro (il vecchietta), who painted the splendid frescos that adorn the baptistery of the cathedral. Today, after a period in which peasants used it, the house is once again an exclusive residence.

hillside building by using only basic materials, and by giving plenty of room to their imagination. "

L’ atrio d’ingresso della casa è caratterizzato da due archi, uno per l’accesso alla scala che porta alla zona soggiorno del primo piano, l’altro per andare in cantina e a quella stanza che viene chiamata la galleria, dove sono esposti i quadri e le sculture di Eva Maria Arnds von Berlepsch, un’artista internazionalmente nota, tuttora molto attiva, che alterna la sua attività artistica con la cura del suo bellissimo giardino.

The lobby of the house is characterised by two archways, one that opens onto the staircase leading to the living room area on the first floor, the other that leads to the cellar and to the so-called ‘gallery’, in which are displayed paintings and sculptures by Eva Maria Arnds von Berlepsch, an internationally renowned artist, still very active, who spends her time between her artwork and taking care of her beautiful garden.

"Il grande camino del ‘300 largo più di tre metri è il protagonista del grande salone. Per migliorare il
risultato di un precedente restauro che aveva sostituito malamente il travone, la padrona di casa vi ha
sovrapposto un allegro festone di fiori secchi. Anche Il tavolo “Labirinto” è opera dell’artista.

The large 14th century fireplace, more than three metres wide, is the centrepiece of the large salon. To improve
the result of previous restoration, which had poorly replaced the large beam, the lady of the house has
applied here a festoon of dried flowers. The ‘Labyrinth’ table is also the work of the artist."

La cucina è parzialmente separata dal pranzo da un muretto che la lascia in vista. Una collezione di vecchi rami la decora. La parete attrezzata con la grande libreria in muratura è stata pensata ed eseguita dalla stessa padrona di casa. Gli sportelli e i cassetti sono stati realizzati utilizzando vecchi “scuri” di finestre. Vari oggetti antichi e una moderna
lampada in vetro di Venini rendono la stanza molto accogliente.

The kitchen is only partially separated from the dining room by a low-level wall adorned with a collection of old branches; it can still be seen from the dining area. The wall has been fitted with a large brick bookcase designed and built by the lady of the house. The cupboards and drawers have been made using old window shutters. A collection of antiques and a modern glass lamp by Venini make the room very welcoming.

"Restauro e riarredo sono stati effettuati dagli stessi proprietari riciclando tra l’altro vecchie porte, finestre e tavole per
sostituire le parti debilitate e per costruire nuovi mobili e ripiani. Anche le pietre antiche della casa sono
indissolubilmente legate alle pietre che diventano sculture nelle mani di Eva Maria Arnds von Berlepsch, scultrice (oltre
che pittrice) molto personale.

The owners themselves have carried out the restoration and refurbishment of this house. They have recycled, among
other things, old doors, windows and tables, which they have used to restore damaged areas and create new furniture and shelves. Eva Maria Arnds von Berlepsch, a very personal sculptor and painter, undeniably links the old
stones of the house to her stone sculptures."
