View of Corvara with the Sassongher in the background, a waitress in Tyrolean dress waters During his time at university, a young Dutchman created a little nest for himself in Rougemont, between Montreux and Gstaad, in the region of Pays-d’Enhau. He no longer lives there, although he loves to go back whenever his work commitments allow, both during the summer season and in winter. In Alpine homes the sought- after southwest orientation provides sunlight and warmth even when days are short; during winter even the intimate dining area in a corner of the terrace can be used. Inside this mini-apartment there is a peaceful atmosphere where the sobriety of fir wood, which fills the air with its scent, reigns supreme from the ceilings and walls to the large planks of the floor. The fir wood is used also for the furniture; it provides a light structure for the canopy that covers the dining area, giving warmth and intimacy. The deliberately lively style of this interior (which is not particularly big) has been obtained by creating separate volumes such as the dining room enclosed by an unusual canopy, or the complex staircase with mezzanine that creates a dynamic backdrop and makes the best possible use of the space below. The perfect solution for two private areas: the bedroom with grass green fabric headboard and cushions with lace or embroidered border using local motifs, and the small bathroom cleverly enlarged by means of a trompe-l’oeil that
The fabrics, carefully selected in warm shades of red, match the tones of the light-coloured wood perfectly, helped by indirect lighting (coming from the inside part of the beams and from the large beam of the roof) that sets off both the
