Opinioni: Luis Durnwalder

In the suggestive frame of tesimo castle during the feast of chestnut i met luis durnwalder, the chairman of bolzano province board, in an elegant but pleasant and informal atmosphere, and between a sip of good wine from the area and a taste of the chestnut delicacies we could speak together. In addition to the compliments for the perfect organisation of the event, which was characterised from an elegant but, at the same time, informal atmosphere, chairman durnwalder told me his opinion about this type of show. “it isimport to keep unaltered the people love for their earth and traditions; if we are aimed at doing this, we have to involve and reward them also by means of these types of initiatives …”, and he points out, maybe aimed at giving more importance to the fair, “this feast, for example, is not only a celebration of the chestnut but also a rewarding to all people, who helped the saving of a chestnut tree type, which is typical of these areas and some years ago was affected from an epidemic”.

If the respect for the past and the tradition that characterises these areas is not only due to the chance, probably also the architectonic consistency is a consequence. I ask him that, and the chairman with his gentle and lively character explains me, “yes, this is a choice that was not easy to defend, in particular during the building boom characterising the sixtieth, but now i have still to fight to check the creativity of some architects and convince them that alto adige local architecture has in some way become a part of the landscape, thus it has to be respected also with the risk to seem tame and old-fashioned”. Indeed, the emotion given from some views and panoramas is also due just to the pleasant feeling of “déjà vu”, which makes us confident and with a nostalgic sense of past radication. Before that he leaved me to present another show (i watched at the watch and realised that it is about midnight!), we make some considerations on ecology and the interest for bioarchitecture that is very high just in these mountains, where the pollution is present at a lower level than in other areas and chairman Durnwalder asks me with a bit of pride: “do you know that in Bolzano the first building in ecosustainable architecture was built?”. No, i did not know it but i am not surprised and, even if i am not yet a lover, i already desire to come back to these mountains.
