“La casa, affacciandosi lungo il fiume Mianus, ne segue, per un breve tratto, la linea sinuosa della sua riva.

The house overlooking the River Mianus briefly follows the contour of riverbank.”

La casa, a Stamford, nel Connecticut, coniuga i temi del grande architetto americano Frank Lloyd Wright con la tradizionale architettura del New England. Un luogo appartato, circondato da una fitta foresta e attraversato dal fiume che rivela uno splendido panorama.

The house, situated in Stamford Connecticut, combines themes by the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright with traditional New England architecture. It is a location set apart from the rest, surrounded by a dense forest and with a river running through that reveals a splendid panorama.

“Si aprono, da nord a sud, spazi e finestre dalle diverse
misure e altezze. Tutto appare molto irregolare: da forme
semplici, quadrate o rettangolari, a stanze ottagonali e triangolari.

Areas and windows of differing sizes and heights open to “the north and south.
Everything looks very irregular, from simple shapes,
squares or rectangles, to octagonal and triangular rooms.”

Tutti i materiali utilizzati sono naturali e mantengono una tonalità di colori simile per l’interno e l’esterno. Ma la luce resta l’elemento principale, “è piacevolissima…frastagliata dalle ombre, (e) lo scuro contrasta in molti luoghi col chiaro… (si crea una piacevole sensazione nel) potersi perciò spaziare con l’immaginazione…( un effetto) che producono gli alberi, i filari, i colli…le ineguaglianze del suolo nelle campagne”, come dice Leopardi (Zibaldone).

"La veranda, tutta vetrata e ricurva, sembra mimetizzarsi con l’esterno,
forse anche per il gioco dei quadrati in legno che spezzano la trasparenza.

The curved veranda with glass partitioning blends in with the outside,
perhaps also as a result of the wooden squares that interrupt the transparency. "

All the materials used are natural, and they maintain a similar colour tonality inside and out. Yet light is still the key element. As Leopardi (Zibal- done) says, “it is very pleasant…interrupted by shadows, (where) dark in many areas contrasts with light… (a pleasant sensation is obtained) where one’s imagination wanders, (an effect) produced by the trees, rows, hills… (and) the unevenness of the country terrain”.

"Nell’ingresso e nella sala da pranzo, risalta il colore della quercia rossa che crea un piacevole contrasto con la pietra locale del pavimento. All’esterno è stato utilizzato legno di ciliegio e tavole di cedro.

In the entrance and in the dining room clearly show the colours of the red oak and their contrast with the local stone used for the floor. Cherry-wood and planks of cedarwood have been used outside. "
