Quando si pensa ad un'amaca viene subito in mente una rete sospesa tra due alberi davanti ad una spiaggia deserta, sotto un cielo blu. Invece questo spazio è stato ricreato nella mansarda di una villa alle porte di New York.

If we are thinking to a hammock we immediately imagine a net hanged between two trees in front of a desert beach under the blue sky. But here the space was recreated in the mansard of a villa in upstate, New York.

L'idea progettuale dei padroni di casa Allan e Julie Shope era quella di non dare un unico stile e un'uniformità alla casa, sia per quanto riguarda i materiali sia per la scelta dell'arredo all'interno. Infatti si passa dai temi più disparati, come dal pino locale al cedro e al granito monolite, dai diversi tessuti e colori agli spazi di luce e ombra, da angoli statici, come i disimpegni, a quelli più dinamici. Per l'esterno è stato utilizzato esclusivamente il legno di cedro e soltanto nel portico è stato lasciato a vista sul soffitto e sul pavimento, per rendere l'atmosfera il più possibile naturale e creare una sorta di continuità con l'ambiente circostante. L'impressione che si ha è infatti di armonia, relax, calore e intimità, il posto ideale per riunire tutta la famiglia. Il buen retiro per antonomasia.

The design idea of the owners, Allan and Julie Shope, was to give different style and harmonizing to the house as far as regards both materials and the choice of internal furnishing. In fact, there are the most diverse themes as from the local pine to the citron wood and from monolith granite to the different fabrics and colours and to the light and shade spaces, from the most static angles, as accesses, to the most dynamic ones. Outside only citron wood was used and in the portico the ceiling and floor wood is at sight to achieve a very natural atmosphere and create a kind of continuity with the surrounding environment. The impression is of harmony, relax, warmth and intimacy, the ideal place to meet the whole family, a real refuge.

Nelle foto: l'immagine del bagno costruito nella veranda e alcune immagini dell'ingresso e del soggiorno. L'arredamento è volutamente ridotto al minimo, lasciando gli spazi liberi e agevoli. Sopra la veranda, luminosa e accogliente.

Gli ambienti sono arredati con stili diversi: gli ampi ingressi sono lasciati liberi e aerosi, per il soggiorno è stato scelto uno stile minimalista e per il salottino più raccolto un bel camino tutto in pietra intonacato di bianco e le pareti tinteggiate con un color pastello. Infine salendo da una piccola scala a pioli, sopra la camera e il bagno, si giunge a una delle verande che occupa circa un terzo dell'appartamento. Il materiale che prevale è il legno sia per il soffitto, con le belle travi a vista e il parquet per il pavimento. In questo luogo di pace e silenzio, i padroni di casa trascorrono la maggior parte del loro tempo, dolcemente accarezzati dalla brezza, e incantati dallo splendido paesaggio che li circonda, vivibile anche da dentro casa: grazie alle ampie vetrate sembra di essere davvero a un passo dal cielo.

Rooms are furnished with different styles: the large entrance halls are free and airy. For the living room minimalist style was chosen and for the cosier living room a nice white-plastered fireplace in stones with walls painted in pastel colours. At last, climbing through a small ladder over bedroom and bathroom there is one of the verandas, which measures about a third of the flat. The prevailing material is wood for both ceiling with nice beams at sight and parquet flooring. In this place of peace and silence the owners pass the most part of their time, gently caressed from the breeze and enchanted from the beautiful landscape that surrounds them, which one can see also from inside: thanks to the large windows it seems really to be close to the sky.
