Nella campagna pisana c’è una casa da scoprire. Ex ricovero per gli attrezzi, ha una facciata sobria, quasi essenziale, ma che nasconde una sorpresa: al suo lato un giardino d’inverno completamente in vetro si protende verso la campagna, assorbendo con la sua struttura in vetro tutta la luminosità del sole.

In the countryside around pisa there is a house that is well worth the visit. It used to be used for storing tools, has a simple looking facade, and yet hides something very special. On one side it has an all-glass winter garden that protrudes into the countryside, absorbing, by means of this glass structure, all the light of the sun.

"La facciata con il tetto a capanna ha piccole finestre disposte irregolarmente. E’ una facciata quasi spoglia, addolcita dalla sfumatura tenue del giallo e da qualche vaso di fiori. The facade, with its saddle roof, has small irregularly placed windows. It is almost bare, and is softened by the gentle hues of yellow and the odd flowerpot. "

All’interno, la struttura dell’edificio, ex ricovero degli attrezzi di fine Ottocento, era un unico e ampio ambiente. Il progettista, Eliseo Frediani, si è subito scontrato con il vincolo dell’altezza, non suffi-ciente alla realizzazione di un tradizionale soppalco in laterizio. Quindi, di necessità virtù, ha pensato di recuperare spazio prezioso con un solaio di tipo industriale dallo spessore ridotto.

Inside, the layout of the building consisted of a single large room; it was used to store tools up until the late nine-teenth century. Designer Eliseo Frediani was immediately met by the problem of not having enough height to make a traditional gallery in masonry. So, by necessity, he decided to retrieve this valuable space using an industrial type floor of reduced thickness.

"Il soppalco è autoportante, formato da una lamiera grecata da “inserire” nelle longarine,
le travi di sostegno in ferro lungo le pareti. La forma sagomata della lamiera, una volta trattata e verniciata, ricorda i caratteristici travicelli dei solai in legno.
The floor is self-supporting, made with a notched plate that is inserted in the iron girders located along the walls. Once treated and varnished, it looks like the traditional beams used for wooden floors. "

Conquistato un piano in più con il soppalco, l’abitazione aumenta il suo spazio vivibile anche verso l’esterno con una struttura a veranda, un giardino d’inverno in armonioso equilibrio tra lo spazio domestico e il giardino. Un soggiorno che sfida clima e stagioni, protetto e nello stesso tempo esposto alla luce, dove l’arredamento in midollino crea l’illusione di essere immersi nel verde.

With an extra floor, the dwelling has more living space, considering also the veranda and the winter garden that provide a delicate balance between home and garden. This is a living room that will meet the demands of all climates and seasons, protected yet at the same time exposed to light, where wicker furniture creates an illusion of being immersed in greenery.

a grandi vetrate contenute da piccoli telai. Entrando si ha l’impressione di essere “en plein air”.
The winter garden has an iron structure with large glass panels for the roof and perimeter walls.

Un “taglio” tra la copertura e la parete lascia penetrare una lama di luce:
è un lucernario che occupa la lunghezza dell’intera camera da letto.
A ‘break’ between the roof and the wall lets a ray of light come in.
This skylight occupies the full length of the bedroom. “

Tema ricorrente di tutto il progetto è la trasparenza che si riflette nella scelta del vetro come materiale sempre presente. Ne sono esempi lampanti le vetrate del giardino d’inverno e il lucernario della camera da letto, ma anche il bagno, con il lavello in cristallo e le pareti scorrevoli della doccia, o la scala a chiocciola, con i gradini in vetro opalescente color latte.

A recurring theme throughout the project is transparency. This is especially noticeable by the omnipresent glass. Blatant examples of this are the glass panels of the winter garden and the skylight in the bedroom; the bathroom, with
its crystal washbasin and sliding shower walls, and the spiral staircase with cream coloured opalescent steps, also illustrate the point.
