Il gioco dell’abitare

Defendi Gandino, Scultore
Luigi Dragoni, Pittore

An Arata-designed palazzo in Milan. Arata was one of the most rigorously eclectic architects of the early twentieth century, and here frames an apartment resonant with colour, sculptures, pictures and furnishing elements which tell the tale of all those who have lived in it. Recent restructuring has barely altered the materials or characteristic features of the original environment. The bathroom is a true revelation. The starry sky (optical fibres have been used to trace the constellations) introduces a dream-like atmosphere, where the play upon the sun and the moon are counterbalanced by the winds upholding the blue sky. The marble covering the walls, giving the impression of almost softening its intrinsic coldness, traces a soft wave running along the perimeter blending in harmoniously with the magical atmosphere of the works displayed.
