I valori di un simbolo

La cronaca di questo giorno, in cui il Presidente statunitense George W. Bush e il Presidente russo Vladimir Putin si riuniscono e si mostrano al mondo accanto a un camino mi porta a soffermarmi sui valori simbolici di questo luogo. Tornano alla memoria altri eventi storici che si sono svolti accanto al camino: per esempio i discorsi che teneva il Presidente F.D. Roosevelt, quando animava la popolazione americana a risorgere dopo la crisi economica del’29 e poi a combattere per la civiltà nel corso della seconda guerra mondiale. Oggi Bush e Putin si ritrovano accanto allo stesso camino della Casa Bianca, la casa del popolo americano e del suo presidente, per rispondere assieme alla minaccia attuale contro l’umanità: il terrorismo. Il camino qui comunica il senso della raggiunta intesa, del sentire comune, del comune impegno. Il camino, insomma, diventa il luogo della civiltà. Basti pensare quanto diverso sarebbe stato il messaggio se, invece che accanto a un camino, Bush e Putin si fossero fatti vedere soltanto a stringersi al mano sorridendo, come in mille altre foto ufficiali. La semplice stretta di mano non comunica ormai più nulla: si sa che dietro potrebbe esserci così l’intesa come la discordia. Invece se l’immagine mostra i due leader accanto al camino, vi si legge subito una intimità inconsueta. Il camino è un simbolo antico che oggi acquisisce un sapore nuovo. Sembrava che ci fosse una crisi dei simboli, ma, come nota Daniele Gianotti nel suo intervento al Seminario di Studio della Conferenza Episcopale Italiana “Trasmissione della fede e progetto culturale”, svoltosi a Roma nel marzo scorso, oggi “c’è una ‘fame di simbolo’, perché la cultura della (post) modernità, mentre vive in pieno la crisi della razionalità e delle forme ‘forti’ di pensiero, volentieri si appella agli aspetti emozionali, affettivi, immaginativi…”
Nel momento di crisi drammatica come quella in cui è piombato il mondo dopo l’attentato alle torri gemelle di New York, quando improvvisamente scoppia una guerra (chi mai se lo sarebbe aspettato!) di tipo nuovo, una guerra globale contro il terrorismo – una guerra che ancora non sappiamo comprendere appieno, di cui intravediamo soltanto alcuni aspetti – proprio in questo momento i leader delle maggiori potenze del mondo si ritrovano accanto al camino. Accanto a quel camino idealmente ci ritroviamo tutti noi. E scopriamo ancora il valore importante, sostanziale, che trascende la mera strumentalità dell’oggetto: il camino come cuore della casa. Simbolo vivo della sicurezza e dell’amicizia, luogo della famiglia. E poiché la famiglia è la prima cellula della società, fondata sul principio della libertà e del rispetto di ogni singolo individuo, il camino rappresenta tutto questo. Grazie allora, ai produttori di camini. Grazie agli architetti che lo progettano, al muratore che ne monta i pezzi, grazie a tutti coloro che col loro lavoro contribuiscono a costruire ancora oggi questo luogo centrale per la famiglia e che della famiglia rappresenta i valori centrali.
26 anni fa davamo vita a questa rivista, IL CAMINO la cui funzione è proprio quella di diffondere la cultura di questo luogo fondamentale. Oggi vogliamo ancora sottolineare il nostro impegno etico, i valori che stanno alla base del camino e che animano noi tutti che al camino dedichiamo la nostra opera. I valori che riconducono alla famiglia, a quel dialogo costruttivo che in essa quotidianamente si intesse, che realizza il confronto e che risolve i problemi. L’immagine di Bush e Putin accanto al camino ci dà nuova forza per continuare sulla strada che abbiamo aperto un quarto di secolo fa: il camino è più attuale che mai. Un simbolo. O forse, ancor più che un simbolo, un pilastro della nostra società.

The values of a symbol

The report of this day, in which the American President George W. And since the family is the first cell of the society, founded on the principle of the freedom and of the every respect of single individual, the fireplace represents all this. Thanks then, to the producers of fireplaces. Thanks to the architects who plan it, to the mason who from there mounts pieces, thanks to all those who with their job contribute to construct still today this place center them for the family and that of the family it represents the values it centers them. 26 years ago we gave life to this review, the FIREPLACE whose function is just that one to diffuse the culture of this fundamental place. Today we want to still emphasize our ethical engagement, the values that are to the base of the fireplace and that all animate we that to the fireplace we dedicate our work. The values that lead back the family, to that constructive dialogue that in it daily accesss code, that it realizes the comparison and that resolves the problems.
