Colour and composition add character to the kitchen.
On these pages, white is the key element that gives an impression of elegance and cleanliness.
Da un lato, la composizione di questo particolare blocco cucina, per il ruolo che ha, non passa inosservato. Aincrementare la posizione da protagonista in questo ambiente funzionale, l’uso del bianco in maniera decisa rende ancora di più questo ambiente il fulcro attorno a cui ruotano tutte le varie funzioni della casa. Progettata su misura, la cucina abbina ampie superfici con finitura bianca laccata a quelle in eleganti essenze legnose come il palissandro o il wengé. E’ costituita da due lunghi blocchi rettangolari: uno è una parete attrezzata di circa 4 mt che si apre sul corridoio tramite una lunga finestra a nastro scorrevole in vetro acidato e legno. Contiene il piano di lavoro e il piano cottura con top in marmo di Carrara e permette la comunicazione tra il living e il corridoio lungo cui si distribuiscono le stanze.

The layout of this kitchen does not go unnoticed. White adds to the important role that this utilitarian room plays. It makes the room even more the centre around which all the various functions of the house revolve. The tailor-made kitchen combines large white-lacquer surfaces with elegant surfaces in palisander or wengé.
It is made of two long rectangular blocks: one is a storage wall system of about four metres that opens onto the corridor by means of a long sliding strip window in etched glass and wood. It contains the work top and the hob unit with top in Carrara marble that allows for communication between the living room and the corridor, along which the rooms are distributed. The other is the counter, also with elegant marble top, that separates the purely operative area
of the kitchen from the dining area, and which looks onto both this and the living room. Two modern stools designed by the architects of the house, Federica Baroni and Walter Vercellini, provide a finishing touch to the functional area.

On this page, tailor-made arrangement on tracks with white lacquered cabinets. The same colour and floor is used in the dining area with round table and four chairs by Kartell, and salvaged ceiling lamp.
L’altro è il bancone, anch’esso con elegante top in marmo, che divide la zona puramente operativa della cucina da quella pranzo, affacciandosi su di esso e sul salone. Due sgabelli moderni disegnati dagli architetti della casa, Federica Baroni e Walter Vercellini, completano l’area funzionale.
Integrare le candide superfici bianche di mobili e/o pareti con le varie essenze del legno contribuisce a completare in maniera elegante la personalità dell’ambiente, soprattutto in questo caso, in cui la cucina, anni luce lontana dalla funzione di locale di servizio, diventa il centro del progetto da cui prende vita tutta la disposizione attorno. Nello specifico, pareti, armadiature e base del bancone in palissandro unite al pavimento in wengé si relazionano con
le medesime finiture della zona pranzo e quella relax con il divano.
Nelle pagine seguenti, le tonalità bianche di altre cucine vengono accostate all’acciaio e le caratteristiche dei mobili e di alcuni dettagli scelti conferiscono un carattere semplice e quasi rustico. Come i muri color tortora, il pavimento in listoni di abete larghi 15 cm dipinti di nero o anche gli elementi di chiusura dei pensili che si avvicinano ad un country style
con cui questa casa non ha niente a che vedere ma di cui fa parte senza stonare.
Contrasti – Contrasts
Il bianco in cucina dà senza ombra di dubbio l’idea di un ambiente pulito e igienico. Oltre ai mobili e ai componenti principali, si possono uniformare anche pareti e soffitti tinteggiandoli con pittura epossidica bicomponente all’acqua, color bianco neve. Queste vernici offrono una buona resistenza all’usura ed alle sostanze c
himiche spesso utilizzate in cucina. Inoltre, come tutte le vernici all’acqua, hanno un basso contenuto di sostanze volatili nocive. Per il pavimento,
invece, come nella foto, si può optare per grossi formati di grès porcellanato di colore grigio scuro in modo da contrastare con una tonalità diversa.

There is no question that the use of white in the kitchen gives the impression of a clean and hygienic room. In addition to cabinets and key components, walls and ceilings can also be made uniform by applying a coat of snowwhite water-based bicomponent epoxy paint. These paints are hardwearing and will stand up to chemical substances that are often used in the kitchen. Furthermore, as with all water-based paints, they have a low content of harmful volatile substances. For the floor, as can be seen in the photograph, you can opt for large format stoneware in dark grey to create a pleasant contrast. |
Effetti black & white – Black & white effects
Una reminescenza degli anni ‘70 (evidente tendenza che coinvolge arredamento, moda e design): piastrelle a scacchi bianchi e neri, sia per pavimenti che per pareti. Nella foto, rivestimento per parete realizzato con piastrelle monocottura in pasta bianca nelle versioni satinata e lucida. I giochi di luci ed ombre dei quadrati 20×20 bianchi e neri danno tridimensionalità al colore e alla parete: è una caratteristica tipica dei formati “diamantati” con cui la piastrella assume diverse facce e movimenta la superficie rivestita.

These black-and-white chequered tiles used for both floor and walls are an echo of the 1970s (an evident trend in the furniture, fashion and design sectors). Photo, wall facing made using white-mix single-fired tiles with satin
and shiny finish. The light and dark effect created by the 20x20cm black-and-white squares gives the colour and the wall a three-dimensional appearance. This is a typical characteristic of lozenge formats, whereby the tile has various faces that add movement to the covered surface. |
Integrating the white surfaces of the cabinets and/or walls with various types of wood helps provide an elegant finish to the character of the room, especially in this case, where the kitchen, light years away from its function as a utility
room, becomes the centre of the project from which all the surrounding layout comes to life.
In this specific case walls, cabinets and the base for the counter in palisander together with the wengé floor interact with the same finishes used in the dining area and with the relaxinglooking sofa.
On the following pages, white tonalities from other kitchens are placed next to steel, while cabinet features and design details create a simple, almost rustic, appeal.
The same applies to the dove-grey walls, to the floor made of 15 cm-wide fir wood planks painted black, and even to the cabinet doors that have an almost country style to them; although this house has nothing remotely ‘country’ about it, these nevertheless fit in well.

Lo studio dei dettagli vede, in questa cucina, un riadattamento di vecchie ante con tipologia a persiana in massello
di frassino: in questo contesto, le stesse sono state sabbiate, per portare a nudo le venature naturali del legno,
e poi completate con una finitura anticata a gesso e montate su contenitori pensili bianchi goffrati. Il contrasto, di
colore e di stile, non stona, bensì caratterizza il locale: il dettaglio rustico è strettamente a contatto con elementi,
finiture ed elettrodomestici in acciaio inox, mentre il bianco protagonista dei mobili e di alcuni complementi, come il
tavolo semicircolare a parete (modello “Petalo” di Zanotta in marmo e acciaio) e la sedia in legno di frassino naturale
(“LCW” di Eames) si stagliano su un pavimento scuro.

This kitchen readapts old cabinet doors with a jalousie type made using solid ashwood. These have been sandblasted to get to the natural grain of the wood, following which they have been given an antiqued gypsum finish
and mounted on embossed white kitchen cabinets. The contrast between colour and style does not clash; in fact it gives the room character. The rustic element is in direct contact with finishes and household appliances in stainless steel, whereas the white used for the cabinets and for some of the furniture items such as the wall-mounted semi-circular table (‘Petalo’ model by Zanotta in marble and steel) and the moulded plywood chair (‘LCW by Eames) stands out against the dark floor. |
