Il tema della sostenibilità ambientale e del risparmio energetico porta inevitabilmente ad una rivisitazione del concetto di “abitazione” in chiave eco-compatibile.
L’uso di materiali a base di legno nelle costruzioni UNIVERSAL HOUSE rappresenta la scelta più naturale ed economica
per soddisfare i principi di sostenibilità ambientale.
Realizzate secondo i dettami della bioedilizia, si contraddistinguono per lo stile architettonico sobrio, elegante e funzionale anche nella distribuzione degli spazi. Le possibili personalizzazioni, dettate da gusti e specifiche esigenze individuali, entrano in gioco nella scelta dell’ambientazione interna e del rivestimento esterno (pareti con legno a vista oppure dall’aspetto simile alla muratura). Il metodo costruttivo rappresenta un’evoluzione dei noti “Platform e Ballon frame”; nello stabilimento vengono preparati i kit strutturali grezzi, in modo da poter lavorare successivamente a secco e con maggiore precisione, riducendo così i tempi di assemblaggio. L’innovazione tecnica è data dalla particolare forma e sezione degli elementi che compongono i telai strutturali, già predisposti per la canalizzazione degli impianti tecnici.
Sui telai vengono fissate orizzontalmente, su ambo i lati, doghe in legno massello rivestite con lastre in silicato di magnesio (REI 180), aventi anche funzione di irrigidimento e protezione contro il fuoco.

Il trattamento a base di sughero granulare “UNISuberTres”, applicato a spruzzo sulle pareti esterne, dona alla struttura l’aspetto esteriore tipico delle case tradizionali in muratura; a differenza di queste ultime, tuttavia, non necessita di alcuna forma di manutenzione periodica. Pannelli ignifughi in lana di roccia ad alta densità, posti nell’intercapedine delle pareti, garantiscono un valido isolamento termico ed una eccellente resistenza al fuoco. La ventilazione delle pareti evita la formazione di condense ed umidità, contribuendo a rendere la struttura difficilmente
attaccabile da insetti e muffe. Made to the standards of eco-friendly building, they have a distinctive and simple design, together with an elegant and functional distribution of space. Sizes vary from 64 to over 280 square metres for residential homes, and from 16 to 42 square metres for bungalows. Customisation, determined by the tastes and needs of the individual, can be applied to the interior setting and outer cladding (walls with wood in full view or else with an appearance similar to a masonry building). The method of construction is an evolution of the renowned platform and balloon frames. Rough structural kits are prepared at the factory, so that they can later be worked without mortar, thus reducing assembly times. The technical innovation is in the special section shape of the components used for the structural framework, which have ready-made conduits for the
installation systems. Solid wood planks covered with sheets of magnesium silicate (REI 180) are horizontally fixed onto the frameworks on both sides, providing strength and protection against fire. The 'UNI-SuberTres' granular cork treatment sprayed onto the exterior walls gives the house the look of a traditional masonry construction, only with the added benefit of not requiring any form of periodic maintenance.
