L’ architettura è spesso una ricerca: raramente trova risposte che siano durevoli. Le poche, rarefatte scelte di quest’opera non mirano ad elevare un’architettura, ma diventano simboli sugli elementi primari ed essenziali
del dimorare. Scelte perfette ed eterne che non raffigurano più l’abitare ma il vivere. Gli spazi perdono la
dimensione della compiutezza sia fisica sia, soprattutto, temporale, divenendo assoluti.
Occupando lo spazio tra il terreno e la volta dell'albero, la residenza fornisce una rivelatrice esperienza spaziale,
che ripetutamente tenta di mettere in relazione gli spazi interni con l'adiacente paesaggio.
La casa è concepita come una serie di piani orizzontali che si pongono come terrazze lungo il bordo della collina
che guarda a sud sopra un lago. La sistemazione dell'ala per gli ospiti, i principali spazi soggiorno e l’ala destinata alle camere da letto, che si avvolge lungo la cima della collina, è una risposta alla topografia, agli orientamenti solari e alle visuali (poste al di là).
Dal cortile d'ingresso, il basso profilo della casa e le aperture selettive attraverso la facciata consentono un giocoso "vedo-non vedo" del paesaggio senza dominare il luogo. Le radici di questo progetto affondano nella tradizione
utopistica di mescolare l'ambiguità tra lo spazio interno e lo spazio esterno. Nel principale spazio soggiorno,
i piani orizzontali delle superfici del pavimento e del soffitto si estendono oltre ampie aperture di vetro.
L'interno è caratterizzato da piani multipli di luce che entrano in casa in una varietà di livelli. Mentre i piani del soffitto e del pavimento mantengono le caratteristiche originarie, la sottile articolazione nei muri e nelle finestre fornisce una profonda relazione con il paesaggio e con il movimento del sole.
La manipolazione delle divisioni, delle aperture e degli spazi fornisce, nel passaggio attraverso la casa, un ricco arazzo di prospettive cangianti.

The house is conceived as a series of horizontal planes that works here as embankments along the edge of a south-facing hill above a lake.

La casa è ubicata in modo tale da trarre vantaggio dal quotidiano movimento del sole. La cucina è rivolta a est mentre il soggiorno e la sua terrazza sono esposti a ovest per trarre profitto dal calare del sole. Tutte le camere ricevono luce da due lati. L'area combinata soggiorno - stanza da pranzo - cucina riceve luce su quattro lati attraverso l'utilizzo di un lucernario , che consente al sole di essere sempre una presenza sempre mutante nel corpo principale della casa.
La casa è progettata per costituire una presenza leggera nell'ambiente. La facciata nord è più "insulare" mentre
la facciata sud apre la casa al luogo e al sole.
Il controllo e l’integrazione delle variabili climatiche sono l’elemento forte e caratterizzante dell’intero progetto sviluppato in maniera compatibile con l’ambiente non solo in termini di riduzione di impatto, ma anche come capacità di sfruttamento delle energie e delle potenzialità che l’ambiente stesso è in grado di mettere a disposizione.

Il meccanismo di captazione, accumulo e trasporto del calore è affidato all’edificio stesso attraverso le superfici
vetrate, orientate a sud per beneficiare della maggiore quantità possibile di energia solare e dalla massa termica delle pareti esposte a nord la cui funzione è quella di assorbire, accumulare e distribuire il calore.
I grandi tralicci che sporgono sulle altezze delle facciate ovest e sud della casa hanno il compito di modulare
l'intenso sole occidentale e meridionale che filtra attraverso le grandi pareti vetrate nel soggiorno e nella stanza
da bagno padronale.
E' stata prestata attenzione a creare una ventilazione incrociata attraverso tutte le stanze.
La predisposizione della casa a beneficiare degli apporti gratuiti attraverso lo sfruttamento dell’energia solare assicura agli inquilini un buon livello di benessere termico rendendo quasi inutilizzato l’impianto geotermico
(predisposto per il riscaldamento e il raffrescamento della casa). Un progetto quindi energicamente consapevole
che non stravolge la tradizione costruttiva, ma che al contrario ha integrate in esso quelle nozioni base relative al modo di concepire la forma e l’orientamento dell’edificio sfruttando le potenzialità che l'ambiente mette a disposizione.

Architecture is often a quest: seldom does it find solutions that last. The few, rarefied choices for this work do not seek to promote architecture, but rather they become the basic and primary symbols of living. They are perfect and everlasting choices that no longer represent home-living but living itself.
Spaces lose their dimension of both physical and, especially, temporal completeness, to become absolute.
Occupying the space between the ground and the tree canopy, the residence provides an unfolding spatial experience, which repeatedly attempts to relate the interior spaces to the adjacent landscape.
The house is conceived as a series of horizontal planes that terrace along the edge of a south-facing hill above a pond. The arrangement of the guest wing, main living spaces and bedroom wing, which wrap along the hill's crest, is a response to the topography, solar orientations and views beyond.
From the entry courtyard, the low profile of the house and selective openings through the facade allow for a playful 'hide and reveal' of the landscape without dominating the site.
This project is rooted in the Utopian modernist tradition of blending ambiguity between interior and exterior space. In the primary living spaces, the horizontal planes of the floor and roof surfaces extend beyond large openings of glass. The interior is characterized by multiple planes of light entering the house at a variety of levels. While the roof and floor planes maintain the original characteristics, the subtle articulation in the walls and windows provide intimate relation to the landscape and the path of the sun.

Manipulation of partitions, openings and spaces provides a rich tapestry of changing perspectives as one passes through the house. The house is organized on the site to take advantage of the daily path of the sun.
The kitchen faces east, while the living room and its terrace face west to take advantage of the setting sun.
All rooms receive light on two sides.
The combined living room, dining room, kitchen area receives light on four sides through the use of a clearstory,
enabling the sun always to be an ever-changing presence in the main body of the house. The house is designed to tread lightly on the environment. The north façade is more insular while the south façade opens the house to the site and the sun.
The harnessing and integration of climatic variables are the key to the entire project, which has been designed
to be compatible with the environment not only in terms of impact reduction but also in its ability to make use of the energy that the environment provides.

The interior is characterized by multiple planes of light entering the house at a variety of levels.

The mechanism for capturing, accumulating and transporting heat is provided by the large glass surfaces of the building itself, which face south so as to use as much solar energy and thermal mass from the north facing walls as possible, and which have the role of absorbing, accumulating, and distributing the heat. The large trellises that hang over the west and south facades of the house modulate the intense western and southern sun that filters in through the large glass walls of the living room and master bedrooms. Attention has been paid to creating cross ventilation through all the rooms.

Arranging the house in such a way that it can benefit from the free use of solar energy provides a high level of thermal well-being to its inhabitants, meaning the geothermal system is almost unused (installed for the heating and cooling of the house).
The project makes a conscious use of energy that does not turn traditional building techniques on their head. Rather it integrates this tradition with basic concepts relative to the design and orientation of the building, and makes use of the possibilities provided by the environment.
