conquer Lombardy but is taken prisoner by Charles the V at the famous
battle of Pavia. The Duchy is then granted by the Emperor to Francesco
II Sforza Massimiliano’s younger brother. |

Francesco II, having been unfairly accused of conspiring
against the Emperor is besieged in the Castle by the Imperial troops. |

The submits and permiless Francesso Il at last submits
to the Duke of Bourbon. So the defenders leave the Castle creditably
after ten months of brave resistance. |

Antonio di Leyva, governor of Milan, in Charles the
V s name, builds new fortification around the town and Castle. |

Francesco Il Sforza recovers the Castle and the Duchy
by paying 450000 ducats, and appoints warder Massimiliano Stampa.

The Duke marries Cristerna, daughter of the King of
Denmark. |

Francesco II dies without direct heirs, leaving by
his will the Duchy of Milan to Charles the V.
Antonio di Leyva in the Emperor’s name takes possession of Milan
and subsequently of the Castle, putting Alvaro de Luna in charge of
it instead of Massimiliano Stampa. |
