Il fattore spazio condiziona sempre le scelte compositive che riguardano un ambiente. In particolar modo quando si ha a che fare con volumi e forme non regolari l’obiettivo primario è quello di sfruttare al meglio lo spazio disponibile, anche quello che può sembrare non utilizzabile o inutile, attraverso una sistemazione razionale degli elementi. I locali mansardati fanno parte di questa casistica: elementi fondamentali da tenere in considerazione sono i punti luce, spesso finestre ricavate nelle falde del tetto.
In queste immagini la cucina, inserita in una grande mansarda assieme alla zona pranzo e al salotto, è evidenziata da un pavimento in grès porcellanato bianco avorio lucido (poco delicato ed adatto al tipo di ambiente) in luogo del parquet in doussié Africa che definisce invece il living.
Entrambe le falde, sotto le quali si sviluppano la cucina e il salone, sono dotate di finestre con struttura in legno e alluminio ed oscuranti meccanici.
L’illuminazione naturale è incrementata da fonti artificiali costituite da faretti incassati in una trave sottile in legno, sospesa al soffitto tramite due staffe in acciaio, una in corrispondenza del piano cottura, l’altra, speculare, in corrispondenza della falda sul salone.
Un connubio di legno (noce) e acciaio caratterizza la cucina, che si integra in modo equilibrato con la rimanente zona giorno.

In questa pagina: una vista dalla cucina verso il salone mostra il perfetto equilibrio tra i due ambienti, comunicanti attraverso la zona pranzo con il tavolo e le sedie al centro.

Space is a factor that determines the manner in which a room is organised. This is especially true when you are dealing with irregular volumes and forms, and the main objective becomes that of maximising available space, even when it
might seem unusable, by means of a rational arrangement of elements. Attics fit into this category.
The key elements to consider are light sources, usually windows in the slope of the roof.
In these pictures the kitchen, placed in a large attic together with dining area and living room, is set off by a floor in ivory-white stoneware (hardwearing and suited to this type of room) instead of the African doussié parquet used for
the living room.
On either side of the roof, with kitchen and living room underneath, there are Velux windows made with a wood and aluminium structure and mechanical blinds.
Natural lighting is increased with the use of artificial sources such as spotlights built into a thin plank of wood that hangs from two steel bars attached to the ceiling, one above the hob unit and the other where the slope in the roof over the living room begins. This blend of wood (walnut) and steel characterises the kitchen, which integrates
nicely with the rest of the living area.
The dining room, a necessary passage between the kitchen and living room, is separated from the kitchen by means of a small cement wall. This has been lightened with expanded clay and faced with walnut wood, as with the cabinets and wall fixtures (closed with etched glass) of the kitchen.

Nell’altra pagina: il sistema domotico studiato per questo tipo di apertura, INTEGRAVELUX, permette di programmare, selezionare, azionare la finestra e gli accessori con un semplice telecomando, mantenendo gli elementi (persiana, finestra, tenda) indipendenti fra loro.
In caso di pioggia un sensore inibisce automaticamente l’apertura o provvede alla chiusura. Il display del telecomando permette di visualizzare sempre lo stato dei componenti.

La zona pranzo, passaggio obbligato fra cucina e living, è separata dalla prima da un semplice muretto in cemento a vista, alleggerito con argilla espansa e rivestito in noce, come i mobili e i pensili (chiusi da vetri acidati) della cucina. Quest’ultima è disposta a ferro di cavallo e sfrutta così tre lati: la zona dove il tetto raggiunge l’altezza minima è ottimizzata con l’inserimento di mobili contenitori ad ante scorrevoli su misura e da un ripostiglio a muro chiuso da
un’anta bianca e nera con disegni “optical”, mentre la parete più alta è occupata dai pensili e dal frigorifero.
Il bianco prevale in tutto l’open space: intonaco e pavimentazione rendono l’ambiente molto luminoso anche in mancanza di grosse finestre.
Dal punto di vista tecnico, in caso di locali posti in mansarda, è d’obbligo tener presente l’introduzione di sistemi di isolamento per il tetto: attraverso un sistema di tetto ventilato, ad esempio, si permette al calore accumulato dalla superficie esposta all’esterno di defluire attraverso punti di sfogo, sfruttando il moto ascensionale dell’aria calda, evitando così di surriscaldare gli ambienti sottostanti.
Per l’ isolamento termico esistono vari tipi di prodotti che si adattano al tipo di manto di copertura, come il polistirene espanso a cellule chiuse, sotto forma di pannelli di architettura variabile che vengono montati velocemente ad incastro sull’orditura della struttura del tetto, su cui poi viene posato il manto di copertura vero e proprio.

The kitchen is in a horseshoe shape, which makes full use of three sides: the side where the ceiling is at its lowest has been optimized with storage units that have tailor-made sliding cabinet doors, and a wall cupboard closed with a
black and white 'optical' design door; wall cabinets and the fridge occupy the higher wall. White prevails throughout the open space, with plaster and floor making the entire setting very bright even in the absence of large windows.
Technically speaking, with attic apartments you have to consider the introduction of systems for insulating the roof. Using a system of roof ventilation, for instance, trapped heat from the exposed outer surface is channelled to vents which make use of the upwards motion of hot air, thus preventing the overheating of rooms below.
Various products for heat insulation are available, such as expanded closed-cell polystyrene in the form of panels that can be rapidly mounted on the roof frame and on which the actual roof covering is applied.

Alcune mansarde sono dotate di balconcini sotto forma di “nicchie” che interrompono le falde: in questo caso porte finestre rendono l’ambiente più luminoso di come potrebbe essere, ovviamente, con un semplice abbaino.
Nella cucina mansardata (in foto) le travi a vista sul soffito e il parquet danno un leggero tocco rustico all’ambiente
sapientemente mixato con l’acciaio della parete fra pensili e base, quello del piano di lavoro, del tavolo e delle sedie e
con le laccature colorate dei mobili. I pensili seguono l’andamento della falda con elementi realizzati su misura.

Some attics have little cabrio balconies that interrupt the slope in the roof. In these cases, floor-level windows provide more light than would otherwise be possible with a simple skylight. In this attic kitchen (photo) the beams of the ceiling and the parquet add a slightly rustic feel to the room, which is cleverly combined with the steel used against the wall between the cabinets and the kitchen base, on the worktop, on the table, and for the chairs, together with the coloured lacquering of the cabinets. The tailor-made wall units follow the slope of the roof.
